Underfiction is a JanitorAI alternative that asks for no ID, no passport, and no face photo. Your stories live on your device by default. Inference runs through Venice, where your account identity is separated from the words you write. You make an account with an email. That's the whole gate. Then you write.

The verifier they're asking you to trust

If you landed here, you already know the prompt. A new screen between you and a scene you were halfway through. Upload a government ID. Or hold your face up to the camera. Wait in a queue. Try again because the verifier timed out. Try a third time because it didn't like the lighting.

And the part nobody says out loud: the romance you write at midnight is now tied, somewhere, to your actual face. The slow-burn enemies-to-lovers thing. The scene you'd never show anyone. A third-party verifier you've never heard of is holding your passport against it.

That's not a content problem. That's a privacy problem. And it's the one Underfiction was built to not have.

What we don't collect

• No government ID. No passport, no driver's license, no upload of any kind.

• Stories stay on your device by default. Sync is optional, off until you turn it on, and encrypted at rest when you do.

Inference goes through Venice, which separates who you are from what you ask the model to write. The account that pays and the request that generates prose are kept apart at the infrastructure level. You are not building a profile every time you open the letter.

It should read like a novel, not a chatbot

Privacy gets you in the door. Prose is why you stay. Most companion apps answer in a chat register — a reply, a line, a question lobbed back at you. Underfiction writes the scene.

Same beat. One is a notification. The other is a chapter. You're the director — you set the scene, you decide he's guarded, you tell the engine the rain matters. It follows.

Frontier models that don't bail mid-scene

You can write with Opus 4.8, GPT, Grok, Gemini 3.1, or Kimi, and switch between them inside a single scene to feel the difference in voice. These are frontier models, not a thirteen-billion-parameter finetune from 2023. They hold character. They carry subtext. And run through Venice, they follow creative direction faithfully — no refusal in the middle of a tense beat, no lecture, no "As an AI."

We won't sell you a literal "uncensored Opus" promise, because you'd test it on day one and catch the lie. What's true: frontier prose that follows your direction, and no refusals dropped into the middle of a scene because a model got nervous.

What it costs — plainly

Credits, not a subscription. New accounts start with 500 free credits, then you pay as you go for the prose you generate. No monthly fee, no ads, no selling your writing to anyone. Frontier models are expensive to run; credits are how we offer them without compromising on model quality or stuffing the margins with ads.

One thing that's free: memory. Scenes are chapters. When a scene ends it's summarized and carried forward, so the engine remembers who betrayed whom. Long scenes auto-compress to keep costs down. You're never billed for summaries or compression — only the prose itself.
