Deleting your Underfiction account
You can delete your Underfiction account at any time. This page describes
the two ways to do it, what is removed when you do, and what is retained.
If you only want to delete some of your data without closing your
account, see Delete part of your data below.
Option 1 — In the app
The fastest way:
- Open Underfiction (web, iOS, or Android) and sign in.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll to Account and tap Delete account.
- Confirm. You will be signed out as soon as deletion is processed.
This removes your account and the associated data described below within
14 days.
Option 2 — By email
If you cannot sign in — for example, you lost access to your email or your
account is locked — write to [email protected]
from the email address registered with the account, with the subject line
"Delete my account".
Include the email address you used to sign up. We confirm receipt within
two business days and complete deletion within 14 days of confirmation.
What is deleted
When your account is deleted, the following is removed from Underfiction
servers:
- Email address, name, and password hash.
- OAuth identifiers from Google and Apple sign-in.
- Synced stories, characters, worlds, and settings, together with the
images and video attached to them.
- Published shared excerpts and their report records.
- Active sessions and authentication tokens.
- Crash-report identifiers that linked diagnostic data to your account.
What is retained, and why
A small set of records is kept after deletion. None of it identifies you
beyond what the law requires:
- Billing records. Credit purchases, invoice numbers, and tax-relevant
transaction data are retained for ten years. This is required by Swiss
accounting law (Code of Obligations art. 958f). The records are linked
to a transaction identifier, not to your account.
- Payment processor records. Stripe and Apple keep their own copies of
payment transactions on their systems. You can ask them directly to
exercise rights against those records.
- Anonymized usage statistics. Token counts and costs already recorded
before deletion remain in aggregate analytics in a form that no longer
links to your identity.
Content held only on a device
If you turned sync off, the stories, characters, and worlds written since
then are not on Underfiction servers and are not affected by account
deletion. To remove them, sign out and clear local app or browser storage
on the device they live on.
Delete part of your data
You can delete parts of your data without closing your account.
- Delete library data. Open an item in the app and use its Delete
action, or clear local app or browser storage. With sync on, deleting an item
removes it from your other devices too. Export a portable archive first if you
want to keep a backup.
- Remove synced content. Delete your account or write to
[email protected]. You can also turn sync
off in Settings → Library, which stops later changes from being uploaded.
- Revoke a shared excerpt. Open Settings → Account → Shared excerpts
and revoke its link. The hosted page stops working immediately, although
copies and link previews already cached elsewhere may remain.
- Anything else. Write to
[email protected] describing what you
want removed — synced library content, crash-report identifiers, sign-in
identifiers from Google or Apple, and so on. We confirm receipt within
two business days and complete the request within 14 days.
Billing records are retained for ten years for Swiss accounting compliance
and cannot be deleted on request. See What is retained
above.
